How To Compare Painting Quotes

Do Your Due Diligence — Choose the Painter Who Earned Your Trust

Most painting companies don’t want you to get multiple quotes.

We do.

Not because we want to be the cheapest —
because we’re not.

when you compare apples to apples,
you’ll see exactly why homeowners choose Baker Brothers.

If You’re Looking for the Cheapest Price…

We’re Not Your Guys.

We’re proud of our prices.
We’ve worked hard, trained hard, and built systems that justify them.

We price our work to:

  • Do the job correctly

  • Use quality materials

  • Take the time needed

  • Maintain clean, respectful workspaces

  • Stand behind the work

  • Treat customers right

  • Support our families

  • Build a business we believe God is proud of

There’s always someone cheaper.

There’s rarely someone better.

What to Look For When Comparing Quotes

Whether you hire us or not, here’s how to compare painters properly:

1. Is the scope of work clearly written?

Or is it vague?
You should know EXACTLY what you’re getting.

2. How many coats are they applying?

“1 coat over existing paint” is NOT a full repaint.
Ask, and make sure it’s written down.

3. What does their prep work include?

Cut corners here = problems later.

4. Do they use subcontractors or random crews?

Or will the owners actually be on-site doing the work?

5. Do they communicate?

Will they keep you informed daily?
Do you know who is coming into your home?

6. What does their clean-up look like?

End-of-day & End-of-Job clean-up matters.
Does their quote say anything about it?

7. Are timelines in writing?

“Should take a few days” is not a timeline.
We give realistic expectations and honor them.

8. Do they offer a contract?

We believe your word should matter — and ours does.
A handshake means trust, but written details bring confidence.
That’s why every project comes with a clear, transparent contract and a detailed scope of work, so you always know exactly what you’re getting.

9. Are they honest about the paint they use?

When you’re reviewing a quote, it helps to understand what type of paint is being used and why. Different brands and lines perform differently, and the best choice depends on the project — not the price tag.

We typically use Valspar because it provides consistent coverage, durability, and great results without unnecessary cost. But we’re always happy to use whatever brand you prefer — Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, or anything else. The material cost simply adjusts based on your choice.

What matters most is not the brand name, but the process and tools, such as:

  • Is the surface prepped properly before paint is applied?

  • Are high-quality brushes and roller covers (like Purdy) being used?

  • Are the coats applied evenly with the right technique and dry time?

  • Are the number of coats clearly stated in the quote?

A great finish comes from good prep, good tools, and proper application — not just the label on the can.

9. Do the quotes clearly explain how much paint is included?

When comparing bids, it’s important to look at more than the bottom-line price. Paint usage can vary widely depending on how painters measure the job and how many coats they plan to apply.

Some quotes include detailed breakdowns. Others just give a total price without telling you:

  • how many gallons they estimated

  • how many coats they plan to apply

  • Are they including primer if it’s needed?

  • Will there be left-over paint for touch ups?

We believe homeowners deserve clarity.

Our quotes always include realistic material amounts based on proper coverage and the number of coats we’ve agreed on. You’ll know exactly what’s included before we start — no guessing, no confusion, no surprises.

And our guarantee is simple:

If we underbid materials, that’s on us — the price you were quoted is the price you’ll pay.

This gives you confidence and transparency from start to finish.

Why We Encourage You To Compare Us

Because we want you to feel confident, informed, and respected.

We believe homeowners deserve transparency, quality, and professionalism — no surprises, no hidden fees, no “gotchas,” and no mystery crews showing up at your house.

When you compare:

  • our prep

  • our process

  • our communication

  • our cleanup

  • our contract

  • our follow-through

  • our values

  • and the fact that YOU GET US, not subcontractors…

…you’ll understand why our clients say we’re worth it.
